Granny Cardi

I've become inspired and addicted to the Inside Crochet magazine since I came across a copy at the Pukekohe PaperPlus & PostShop.  I gifted myself a subscription and ever since I've been almost running to check the mailbox when I get home.  Not that I'm actually expecting another issue just yet, you just never know though....

I saw a cardi in the December issue that I felt like I needed to give a try.  As usual I got mad with trying to understand the (very) basic pattern, and pulled the whole thing out, and then this Easter weekend I thought I'd give it another go:

Granny square stitches around the yoke

Obviously quite impressed with myself now I've done 2 cardi's I'm thinking a jersey next, or maybe a frock, or a coat, or..... well actually it's another blanket since I've had a request :-)

Flowers & Scrumbles

This morning I was packing my bag for a weekend of wedding meriment in Wellington after a brief stop off for work in Napier.  Once I'd decided on the wedding outfit (I'm still unsure..) next was deciding how much yarn to take and which project to work on for the weekend.  I also added an extra ball of purple acrylic to make flowers.

Over the past year, whenever I've been on a plane or in the departure lounge I sit and crochet flowers and give them to my fellow passengers.   As I picked the yarn I thought I'd share this wee thing I do because I really get a kick out of the smiles I see when I give them away, it feels good :-D

HerHook's influence is all over this
except it's like we're yarn bombing people instead of things!

The freeform crochet is coming along -  I have found that it looks better on certain days. It's in 3 bits (called scrumbles) at the moment. We get to join them later on, or, when we feel like it.  This is the biggest bit/scrumble on a good day.

Adding a piece of cloth and learning how to crochet around it, and adding something that wasn't anything to do with crocheting or sewing  has been the highlight so far, even though it meant lots of needle holes in my fingers.

A Green Scene

A green scene for a lovely weekend :-)

Fab new boots bought on a trip to Tauranga,
Beautiful bag bought in Italy as a present from my parents, (a pretty close match)
Spike my dwarf cabbage tree, liking his new home

A great dew this morning. I hadn't washed my face in dew for a while, it felt great!

New poncho with gorgeous greens is coming along well

Normal is... Lime Green

A spot of normality in a sea of cardboard.... (can you spy it?)

This time next week we'll be on the other side of the Bombay Hills, and unpacking.

So this is what we've done with our long weekend, hope yours has been as productive  & you didn't get too wet at the ANZAC Day dawn services

Shawls and Shores

This has felt like a ‘Summers here’ weekend.

We went down to the beach early on Saturday for a walk, it felt like the calm before the Christmas storm. Soon the bachs’ (holiday homes) will start to fill up and then the beach gets busier and busier.

The tempo changes, so many people on holiday gives it a real beachy vibe, it means it’s easy to relax by popping down to the beach for a walk or a drink on the way home from work.

We also popped to the hardware shop and I bought a piece of aluminum rod which we bent into a supersize hairpin (yep, I’m still excited about the hairpin lace!) And voila, I whipped up this summer shawl out of that cotton I bought the other day. I think it’ll be just the trick to keep the shoulders warm on those long summer evenings that are on their way

Pussy Cats and Bunny Rabbits

We're having a bit of a problem with an univited guest coming and eating all of Harry and Gingers food. The biggest problem is because the boys are getting on a bit they are on some super dooper food that is super dooper expensive! lol!

The council and the SPCA only have one trap each for the whole of the city and so we'll keep on feeding the unwelcome guest until we can deliver him to the SPCA, (we've called him Head because his head seems unnaturally large) Luckily he's quite a quiet and polite cat, so there's no fighting and no noise.

And Bunnies.

I've been playing with making up a bunny rabbit. This is the 2nd one. I love his pompom tail. I've popped him into Andrews shop. Just have to think of a name for him now :-)

Happy Saturday!
